What About The #RPTChair Race?
As many of you may know, this Saturday (June 3rd), the SREC will be electing a new Chairman for the Republican Party of Texas. As of now, there are two candidates in the race:
Two candidate forums have taken place since former RPT Chairman Mechler resigned on May 20th.
Last week, I sent out two emails that contained a link to a survey form, along with all of my contact information, to gather your input. Honestly, I wished I had gotten more feedback but below are the submitted, written results:
Supports James Dickey: 29 (3 out of district)
Supports Rick Figueroa: 7
Supports another candidate: 6
Don’t know: 5

So…. where do I stand on this RPT Chairman’s race?
First, I would like to commend both of these gentleman for even considering a run for such a demanding, stressful, volunteer position. I am sure it has it’s rewards but it also consumes your life …. and that takes a special kind of commitment from them and their families.
From the halls of our state Capitol, to the corridors of the committee meeting rooms at our state convention, to the reception area of our SREC meetings, I have had the pleasure, and honor, of working with James Dickey on conservative, grassroots issues for the last 2+ years. James is the guy that ‘walks the talk’ ……. and I am an ‘action speaks louder than words’ kind of person.
James’ website lists all of his many accomplishments in the Republican party that spans over many years of not only working to ensure Republicans are empowered, and equipped, to win their races but that our party is working to promote our principles, and defend planks, in our platform.
He has also participated in every aspect of the convention process, including serving on committees …. along with running the Travis County Republican party.
How can the Republican Party of Texas be successful without it’s Chairman really knowing, and understanding, our base from the grassroots up? This question has been on the forefront of my mind and I believe James Dickey is the man with the qualifications, the experience, and the integrity, to do the job. I also believe that James’ sense of fairness, respect for TX grassroots Republicans, and his uncanny ability to bring people together, will be an asset for not only our state party but will also set an example for our national party to follow.
Rick Figueroa is an exceptional motivational speaker, is very personable, has a lot of friends in high places, and had just begun his party involvement a little over a year ago. There is no doubt that there are great things on his horizon but I just don’t see he has the qualifications needed to run the RPT. There is just too much at stake to take that risk …..
With that said, please join us in Austin, or watch the RPT live stream, for the vote Saturday and, as always, feel free to contact me with any questions.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve you, #TeamSD11!
For God and For Texas,
